Civil Defence and safety

Racking layouts in the UAE must leave the clearances, aisle widths and sprinkler access that Civil Defence requires. Ask suppliers whether their design takes these into account and whether they provide the drawings and load calculations for approval.

Making quotes comparable

Racking is easiest to compare per pallet position, with the load per level stated. Ask every supplier to include the same accessories: floor anchoring, load signs, column guards and safety mesh, so one quote is not cheaper only because it leaves them out.

Your building decides the design

Give the clear height to the underside of the roof, the floor slab's capacity if you know it, and the pallet size and weight. The forklift's lift height and aisle width must match the racking, so request both together or tell each supplier what the other is.

Buy or rent

Forklifts and reach trucks can be bought or rented; for rentals, ask for the monthly rate with maintenance, a replacement unit during breakdowns, and the operator, if you need one, as separate lines. Racking is usually made to order, so ask for the lead time.
